本劇為實現一個理想，亦即透過數千年悠久歷史裡流傳的動人神話故事，介紹各種民間信仰，在主角人物的塑造上，特別著重於其成仙得道之法——內心修煉與救人濟世，以提示觀眾信仰不應流於迷信。
解說[编辑]
初期以不定集數成一單元。而後1983年底開播的Template:〈西遊記Template:〉單元原本只預定播出六集，卻意外的大受歡迎，使其不斷地延長加製，該節目儼然轉成為Template:〈西遊記Template:〉的專門影集，該單元一演就演了一個多年頭至1984年12月1日才告結束。接著1984年12月8日起，原來接著在《中國神話故事》後面時段的新開單元〈天雷報〉則是向前挪動，延長播出時間並更名為《中國神話故事：天雷報》播至1985年4月27日結束。之後由1985年5月4日起開始「重播」[2]最初的幾個單元，但只維持了一個月《中國神話故事》便在1985年5月25日下檔。最後於1987年9月14日至10月13日間，每週一至週六中午時段再度重播《中國神話故事》初期的單元。
