五金为中国大陆普遍推行的职工基本福利的简称，具体是指养老保险、失业保险、医疗保险、工伤保险以及住房公积金；“五金”由单位和个人共同承担，单位出大头。劳动法在《社会保险和福利》章节（第七十至七十六条）规定设立社会保险基金，使劳动者在年老、患病、工伤、失业、生育等情况下获得帮助和补偿。剔除性别差异最基本的福利为养老、失业、工伤和医疗保险，这就是劳动法规定的“四金”；此外，女性职工有生育保险（男性也需购买，现为中国内地强制险的一种）。公务员法第十二章（第七十三至七十九条）均对公务员福利作出的相关规定。根据国务院1999年颁布并于2002年修订的《住房公积金管理条例》规定，劳动者用人单位还须缴纳住房公积金。
“五金”是适用单位必须承担的基本社会义务，具有强制性。凡是“五金”规定的适用单位，必须无条件地服从执行；对于个人而言，“五金”是应得的基本权利。
