- 1998年4月17日 - 建造此交流道工程展開。
- 2011年3月至5月 - 由於發生2011年日本東北地方太平洋近海地震與福島第一核電站事故，建造工程停止。
- 2011年6月 - 建造重開，但受福島第一核電站事故影響，只可繼續在原町IC至相馬IC之間進行工程。
- 2012年3月9日 - 此交流道的名稱定為南相馬IC。
- 2012年4月8日 - 常磐自動車道南相馬IC至相馬IC開通，此交流道也同時啟用。
