在黑暗精灵三部曲之《故土》中，迪佛家族周围就使用了尖叫蕈来作为警戒。小说的第一章有相关描述：高大的蕈類環繞著這整個區域，每五個之中就有一個是尖叫蕈，他們是一種有智慧的蕈類；正如其名，它們會在任何生物靠近的時候發出刺耳的尖叫聲。狄寧小心的保持距離，不想觸發這些陷阱。[1]
