這篇小說寫的是文革初期發生於陝西興安縣的一個悲劇，在國共內戰中率本部投共的國民黨上校，已為新中國努力工作十多年，連個小小的縣長到文革時也被罷了，但仍然難逃厄運。終因“歷史問題”而被槍斃，可他臨刑前還高呼“共產黨萬歲，毛主席萬歲”。這個冤死者名叫尹飛龍。據作者介紹，原型為一雷姓人物，經歷幾乎未作改動，以血的真實來扔露“文革”謊言[1]。
