日新國民小學位於彰鹿路六段北側，緊鄰鹿港崎溝仔。該校創立於1959年8月1日，當時名為「大興國民學校日新分校」。[2]1961年8月1日，獨立設校，改稱「日新國民小學」。「日新」二字源自《禮記。大學》「湯之盤銘曰：苟日新，日日新，又日新。康誥曰：作新民。詩曰：周雖舊邦，其命維新。是故君子無所不用其極。」。[3]
