2014年，到艱困選區臺中市西區公民里參選里長，以黑馬之姿打破在地世襲50年以上的經營，獲得1342票（44.14%）順利當選。年僅24歲，是當時臺灣最年輕的里長。
2018年，爭取公民里里長連任。4年服務備受里民肯定，以2066票（66.68%）高票繼續當選。
2020年4月，因為嚴重特殊傳染性肺炎的爆發，口罩、耳溫槍等防疫物資缺乏，許多里民反映買不到，因此林京玲決定自掏腰包，除捐贈口罩外，也捐贈3000張額溫卡予醫護、老師、清潔人員和民眾，方便大家測量，也希望藉此提醒大家莫忘防疫，並呼籲大家對醫護人員有更多的體諒和支持，用加油取代責備、謾罵[1][2]。
2020年11月，參與演出國片《影子背後》，客串女記者，協助行銷臺中市[3][4][5]。
2021年8月3日，歷經5年爭取，皮特—霍普金斯症候群( Pitt-Hopkins )終於被衛生福利部公告列為罕見疾病。皮特—霍普金斯症候群不只臺灣罕見，全世界亦僅有250例。林京玲發現里內1位孩童「皓皓」罹患此病，由其父親獨自扶養，生活困難，卻因不被列入罕見疾病，難獲得補助，遂為他們到處奔走發聲，向媒體分享，吸引大眾關注，終於列為罕見疾病，使未來該病患者得享更多醫療資源[6]。
