武漢華順經緯公司以諮詢顧問公司名義2007年登記於武漢市洪山區珞南街珞獅路397號，但後期實則展開學生補習業務，然而其真實面貌則是一個作弊策劃團夥。[1]作弊方式有兩種，一是提供學生一種微型化的呼叫器類似橡皮擦大小，上有顯示屏能接收考場外傳送的答案，二是對於不想冒風險的考生也有提供高價的槍手替考方案。
12月初一名家住武漢的的李强(同音化名)向公安舉報有公司公然提供作弊服務，他提供了证据资料，包括一份多达100余名违规考生的名单由此揭發這大案。華順經緯公司以QQ群、微信群在考前联络考生，將有意願者帶往飯店房間培訓，然而到場後才講解其實是作弊器材的使用，但不少來者實心理有數之前廣告宣傳的「保證考上」和高額收費，都已經暗示這不外是非法手段。
省公安厅除本身20多名警力還从荆州、广水、十堰等地调集了40多名警力来汉，在考前一天秘密偵查所有公司點位和監控可疑人員，考試當天民警均身穿便衣，在监考人员协助下，对相关学生重点监控，择机带离。蹊跷的是之前出现在举报人名单上的违规考生，可能是听到了风声，绝大部分缺考，侥幸逃脱。[2]然被抓獲的槍手表示一天代考有人民幣8000元收入，另外搜出大量呼叫器，但是由於其呼叫器品質粗糙有不少採用此法的考生因接收不良沒收到答案，靠自己作答，但依然被抓。
