Articles copied from Draft Namespace on Wikipedia could be seen on the Draft Namespace of Wikipedia and not main one.），名勇，本名彪，字世紀，以字行，避諱唐太宗，又稱沈紀[1]，吳興人，寄籍河南光州固始，為開漳聖王陳元光開拓漳州時，麾下的「六輔將軍」之一，分別是：輔昭將軍許天正、輔勝將軍李伯瑤（一作輔信將軍）、輔順將軍馬仁、輔義將軍倪聖分、輔顯將軍沈毅、輔美將軍沈世紀。亦有「五輔將軍」或「四輔將軍」之說。

吳興人，在光州為刀筆，唐高宗時，隨嶺南行軍總管陳政南下閩粵平亂[1]，沈世紀果敢勇猛，曾一騎殺入敵陣，取敵將首級，也曾經八百里長驅入潮，解了潮州揭陽之圍，在戰鬥中，沈世紀揮刀殺入敵陣，所向披靡，連斬數將，而後入城救援，勇冠三軍。[來源請求]
陳政歿後，又繼續輔弼陳政之世子陳元光（開漳聖王）[1]。後奉命駐守在漳州詔安，治民有方，當地百姓深感其德[1]，據說沈被召喚入朝，論功行賞，唐高宗賜「鐵甲面具」，沈因而戴上，在皇帝面前舞劍，高宗大喜，又因其之前潮州之功，賜名“沈勇”[1][2]。今時造像有文、武之分。文身以紅、粉臉長鬚文質彬彬之像。武身為戴面具，持寶劍的威風凜凜形象。[來源請求]另一说，为减杀戮，每次临战前自己与将校会戴上铁面具，参战士兵锅底灰涂面，使敌手足无措[3][2]
歿後，葬於漳州天宝山，唐宣宗追封為武德侯，加殿前大將軍，故世稱「武德尊侯」。南宋時，宋理宗再封殿前親軍副指揮使威武輔美上將軍[4]。主祀沈世紀的廟宇不多，在臺灣多配祀於開漳聖王廟。
沈世纪入閩，唯有其妻夫人尤氏随行，子孫宦居長安等地。直到宋高宗時其後裔沈廷辅入詔安發展，沈姓成為詔安甲族，因多為詔安的沈姓族人所敬拜，人稱為「沈祖公」[5]。
东南亚一带沈氏家族，也多以武德候沈勇为开基祖，会在武德候诞辰时拜祭[4]。
