早期台灣傳統媒體言論多被監控或限制，因而自1995年起就開始推動「黨政軍退出媒體」的改革活動，在2003年完成立法。有研究认为此後中共藉由金錢扶植在台民間企業並且藉此入股、併購大量台灣媒體作為傳聲筒，其餘媒體則透過政商關係、贊助廣告費、高層人士滲透製造影響力。[1][2][3][4]
旺旺集團總裁蔡衍明，被外界指稱為「中」資，藉由旺旺集團併購中時、中視、中天等傳媒進行對臺媒體統戰[5]。
中國大陸異議人士袁紅冰認為「中共有計畫的投資臺灣政治界、學術界、工商界、文化界、媒體界」，是中共對國民黨和臺灣各界的大規模「統戰」滲透，對民進黨等綠營則是用策略引導他們極端仇視外省人，使臺灣成為一個相互仇恨的社會。[6][7]
前台湾TVBS总经理李涛表示，TVBS从开台以来，从未宣扬过统独问题，李涛又表示台湾独派人士习于将积极监督执政当局的传媒，冠以“统派媒体”，方便摆脱媒体的监督，为当局卸责。[8]
澳門新華澳報社長兼總編輯林昶認為，但要說中國國民黨是「統派」政黨，《中國時報》等是「統派」媒體，那就不一定準確了...至於中國國民黨，其實只能說是反對「台獨」的政黨，而不能說是「統派」政黨。其主席馬英九「不統、不獨、不武」中的「不統」，就已表明了其是一個既拒「統」又反「獨」的政黨。其實，馬英九所堅持的政治路線就是變相的「台獨」路線，即是台灣「極統派」激烈反對的「B型台獨」路線...勞動黨與新黨、中華統一促進黨等政黨，才算是真正的「統派」政黨。[9]
