9月20日，北加州聯邦地方法院法官劳雷尔·比勒（Laurel Beeler）作出阻止这一微信禁令的裁決[11]，理由是此禁令可能損害《美国宪法第一修正案》第一条保障的言論自由[12]。有關微信的禁令將被暫停，微信不會被禁，可以繼續使用。
美国微信用户联合会自称与中国腾讯公司或其任何关联公司没有关系[13]，是由因商业和个人原因而依赖微信的用户组建而成[14]。在取得阶段性胜利后，USWUA向《德国之声》表示，若美国商务部上诉，将继续应诉[15]。

有媒体质疑美国微信用户联合会“民间组织”这一身份，称川普签发微信和TikTok禁令后不久，一个临时成立的“民间机构”——美国微信用户联合会就牵头向加州北区联邦地区法院提起诉讼[16]，以“保护自身权利”、维护“美国宪法规定的言论自由”为由，状告川普政府微信禁令“违法”[17]。
