- 1988年，由忠孝國小籌備建校事宜。
- 1990年10月15日，核准成立臺中市西區大勇國民小學。
- 1992年2月，首任校長孫朝芝就任。81學年度正式開學，共28班；同時成立家長會、愛心工作隊、辦理學生午餐與校刊。
- 1993年，成立附設幼兒園。
