陳健國在沙田區大藍寮村長大。在曾璧山中學1999年中七預科畢業後入讀嶺南大學人文學科理學副學士學位。2003年，他在澳門大學社會科學學士學位畢業後，就立即投考見習督察。
陳健國在2004年1月加入警隊並出任見習督察一職期間駐守小瀝源行動基地，之後駐守多個單位。2012年8月先後任職飛虎隊。陳健國在2014年晉升為機動部隊總部警司，2019年晉升為機動部隊總警司，更擔任機動部隊總部「速龍小隊」指揮官[1]，2020年獲委任為香港警察機動部隊總部校長。[2]同年獲頒授行政長官公共服務獎狀。

陳健國為警隊中的鷹派人物其言論相當出位。有知情人士揭發陳健國更與民建聯王虎生(他現為城巴同事)關係密切。[來源請求]
