1983年7月，毕业于安徽师范大学体育系，毕业后分配至安庆师范学院任教。1985年9月至1988年7月，在上海体育学院体育理论专业攻读硕士研究生。1988年6月至1994年5月，任安徽师范大学体育学院副院长、副教授。1994年6月，转任首都体育学院教务处长、教授。2002年7月至2005年7月，于上海体育学院攻读博士研究生。2000年10月起，任国家体育总局体育科学研究所研究员，现任国家体育总局体育科学研究所特聘研究员，中国体育经济创新中心主任。[1]
先后主持国家自然科学基金项目、国家哲学社会科学基金项目、国家体育总局哲学社会科学重点项目多项，研究成果获国家体育总局体育哲学社会科学优秀成果一等奖2项、上海市科技进步三等奖1项。2011年，中国校友会网大发布《2011中国杰出人文社会科学家研究报告》，鲍明晓入选中国杰出人文社会科学家名单[2]。
主要学术兼职有：国家哲学社会科学基金项目评审专家，中国体育科学学会体育产业分会副主任，中华全国体育总会委员，中国体育发展战略研究会委员，CBA联赛委员会委员，清华大学体育产业研究中心学术委员会主任；同时兼任北京体育大学[3]、苏州大学[4]等学校的博士生导师。
