4064号航班原计划是于1月3日上午11时55分从杭州萧山机场起飞，下午2时50分落地包头东河机场。飞机在起飞后不久宣布返航并在机场上空盘旋耗油以减轻飞机重量，飞机于世界协调时5:34分落地萧山机场。[5][6][7]飞机返航后于当天下午4时58分宣布取消，隔天该航班恢复正常运营。[8]
