吳最初和前女友居住在屯門福亨村一劏房，多次遭到前女友欺負，亦指其女友欺騙其感情，曾帶同陌生男子回家，為吳僅認為兩人只在聯天。[1]最後兩人分手，吳亦搬出福亨村。
吳家聲其後在荃灣屠房工作，並在工作期間認識葉芷清，並發展成情侶關係，並在田廈路富安花園一單位同居。惟吳表示同樣遇人不淑，並指其女友收到錢還有吸毒習慣。 在2022年4月尾，葉芷清因想減肥，聽取吳家聲及友人意見，認為不眠不休能達到減肥效果，吳家聲在場協助。在多日不眠不休後，葉倒地一睡不起，吳家聲和友人用不同方法企圖喚醒葉女，其間有人用木棍扑向葉女後腦，使其受傷昏迷。吳家聲仍未知悉，最後葉芷清失救而死。[2][3]吳家聲之後在4月29日，把屍體搬離單位棄置，惟當埸被市民發現並報警，最後吳家聲及兩男一女一同被警方拘捕，並起訴謀殺和非法處理屍體罪。[4]
