《超極挑戰者》設計室內戶外超過二十種的高難度挑戰單元：〈超級麻辣王〉、〈酒國急先鋒〉、〈火線大行動〉、〈滾球闖天關〉、〈超級大胃王〉……等各項活動，動靜皆備，鬥智慧、鬥體能、鬥運氣，感受「超越自我、挑戰極限」的螢幕快感。
《超極挑戰者》前期主持人為楊峻榮與李祖寧，後期主持人為劉漢強與李祖寧。2000年，《超極挑戰者》改版為三組藝人對抗，改由三片吐司與彩色果醬主持，分組對抗……。
