2020年12月28日14时40分许，广东石油化工学院西城校区在读学生叶某荣因矛盾纠纷，致同班女同学曾某娟、戴某梦、苏某秀3人受伤。3名女生被送往在茂名市人民医院。一名女生受伤严重，脸部和眼角膜烧伤，已转往广州治疗；另有一人脸部烧伤，一人手部烧伤，目前均无生命危险。[1]事后有学生称，受害女生的头发瞬间融掉，“直接冒烟”，教室充斥着尖叫声。[2]目前，辖区派出所已控制犯罪嫌疑人叶某荣。[1]
